Lawless’ Fundraising Signals Campaign’s Momentum

July 11, 2006

Lawless Doubles Best Previous Quarter by Raising $110,000;
Total Raised Hits $260,000; Cash on Hand Tops $150,000
WARWICK, RI – Jennifer Lawless, candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District, announced the preliminary results of her most recent financial reporting period. She currently has over $150,000 in cash on hand and raised over $110,000 in the last quarter alone. Her $110,000 quarter more than doubles her previous best fundraising quarter and almost doubles her cash on hand. Since announcing her candidacy, Lawless has raised over $260,000 total from more than 600 individuals.

“Rhode Islanders want a change, and they’re investing in that change by supporting my campaign. It’s clearer now more than ever that we need new leadership to get our state and country back on track,” said Lawless. “I am extremely grateful to the six hundred individuals who have contributed to my campaign, and I am very confident that this grassroots support will help fuel my victory this Fall. From the soaring gas prices and the cost of health care to the war in Iraq, it is clear that the Republican leadership in Washington is not doing its job on behalf of working people, and too many Democrats are letting them get away with it. Unfortunately, that includes James Langevin. This is a campaign to let Rhode Islanders know that they can and will do better with new leadership.”

Since announcing her candidacy, Lawless has received contributions from more than 600 individuals in Rhode Island and across the country. Contributions from individuals comprise over 90% of Lawless’ total campaign contributions, which stands in stark contrast to the individual support for her primary opponent, James Langevin, who accepts almost half of all money he raises from special interest groups and political action committees.

“James Langevin has the support of the bosses, the insiders, and the special interests. I don’t, and that’s exactly how I want it,” added Lawless. “I’m prepared to trust the judgment of the kind of Rhode Island working families who are supporting my campaign.”
