Lawless Announces $100,000 Total Raised, $50,000 in Last Quarter

Campaign has over $75,000 cash on hand and maintains fundraising lead in contributions from individuals over Langevin

WARWICK, RI – Jennifer Lawless, a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District, today announced that she crossed several important benchmarks in the most recent financial reporting period, which ended on December 31, 2005. Since announcing her candidacy, Lawless has raised over $100,000 total, including a $25,100 loan she made to her campaign last quarter. She currently has over $75,000 in cash on hand and raised over $50,000 last quarter.

“I am very excited about the great momentum we’re building on numerous fronts, including fundraising,” Lawless said. “I am thrilled about the number of individuals who have voiced their support for my campaign. This campaign is about every voter in the district and ensuring that their ideas are represented in Washington.”

In her most recent FEC report, filed yesterday, Lawless reported $75,980.93 in cash on hand at the close of the reporting period. She has more than doubled her cash on hand since the previous quarter. She reported $55,114.30 in total receipts for the quarter and $105,941.61 for the election cycle-to-date.

Since announcing her candidacy, Lawless has raised nearly 15% more from individuals than her primary opponent, Representative James R. Langevin. Said Lawless, “Conversations with individuals are extremely important to me. I will not be beholden to special interests or huge political action committees.”

In this election cycle alone, Representative Langevin has accepted over $175,000 from political action committees (PACs). Contributions from individuals have accounted for only 57% of his total contributions. Contributions from individuals account for over 93% of Lawless’ total contributions.
